Building and racing cars designed and built by students

Greenpower Project

Greenpower is a club and activity that has run for the past six years. It provides an opportunity for pupils to develop independence and the ability to problem solve through the manufacture of electric racing cars.

Why do we need to Fundraise?

We are struggling to carry the cars and equipment to races and have had to rely on the goodwill of parents; we would like to have a trailer that can hold two cars and all the helmets, overalls and tools. Any additional money will be used to buy storage racks for the hand tools. We race at five tracks each year and have been successful with the cars we run. The trailer will cost £4,200 - we have already raised £2,100 through a grant application. We have plenty of tools but these would benefit from being stored in a suitable cabinet or rack which will cost £300.00.

The Greenpower Team

We are a group of students aged 11 to 18 who are interested in engineering and also current environmental concerns. We are building vehicles that we get to drive and race where the winning team travel the greatest distance on the same power as all other teams.

Why is our project so exciting?

Electric cars provide an alternative to using fossil fuel and we have the responsibility to design better more efficient transport that will go some way to solving the present environmental concerns. Our car can run for 90 minutes on the same energy equivalent of that gained from a chocolate bar. Our latest car is a carbon fibre monocoque with light weight subframes, and is incredibly aerodynamic. A typical race will involve between 40 and 80 cars all on the same track at the same time - it is both exhilarating and exciting to watch.

Here are some photos of us in action at some of our recent events...

Rewarding your generosity

Whatever the amount you can give, we have some fabulous rewards ranging from hosting people at events to providing a team photo to thank everyone who donates. Please check them out.

More importantly, no matter what you donate, you will be making a difference - supporting current Bristol Grammar School pupils.

Help us succeed in fundraising for Greenpower

You don't necessarily need to give money to help us succeed...
You can simply share this project with anyone you think would support us – on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, by email, telephone, in a chat over the fence or on your blog.
Please share it with everyone you know; the more people who know about it, the more likely we are to make it succeed.

Please sponsor and share and help make this happen.

A big thank you all for supporting our fundraising for a new trailer for the Greenpower team. The first outing was last weekend, www.bristolgrammarschool.co.uk/News/Great-result-for-Greenpower.aspx

Thank you to all of you who have already donated. We are really excited that we are approaching our target and will be able to take more cars out to race in the future. The Team is busy preparing for Rockingham. We are finishing off the carbon fibre body work and change of wiring on Megazord to give us more reliability and to test our new data logging.

The team are meeting tomorrow night to make these improvements.

It's great to have the website up and running.

Tonight we have a visit from Dick Lovett cars and they are bringing the BMW i3 and i8 to show the students.

Thought I'd make the total up to a more rounded amount......... Tony Warren

A very worthwhile project - it encourages teamwork, shouldering responsibility, new skills and independence.

I was initially confused by the log-in process assuming that my normal OB username/pw was required and then realising Hubbub was a separate beast when my initial efforts were rejected!!

Well done on achieving the minimum £500 - good luck on securing the rest of the funding.

Good luck to the team.

Hi Dave, I just wanted to thank you for your donation to our Greenpower trailer and also for your helpful comments. If you have a look at our other project that went live yesterday you will see that we have already incorporated them! We are brand new to crowdfunding at BGS so are on a steep learning curve. Love this guys! Great project - wish I could have done something like this when I was a teenager! Just a quick thought: It would be good to have some rewards appropriate to family sponsors - parents, grandparents etc - who would probably be OK with contributing £50-£100, ... but don't necessarily want their names on the cars. T-shirts (relatively easy to put together and would mean people walking about promoting your project around town), framed photos, meeting with team here in Bristol...? Maybe have a think. Also, it would be nice to see some of the team talking about what they're doing in the movie. Other than that, brilliant stuff! Best of luck to you all!

Good luck guys

Good luck to the Greenpower Team on raising these funds.
